International Master Program for Smart City

 The International Master Program for Smart City is the first program established for urban planning of the next generation in Taiwan. The Program is dedicated to the vision of urban development and the application of digital nervous systems, intelligent responsiveness, and optimization at every level to local departments' information systems, schools, libraries, transportation systems, hospitals, power plants, water supply networks, waste management and ultimately to the system of complete cities and urban regions. With integrating information and communication technology (ICT) and Internet of things (IoT) technologies into our course design, this program delivers the knowledge and skills for students to manage a city’s assets in a modern way.

To reach the goals, we build five learning modules as follows:

1. Smart Construction and Engineering

2. Water Resources Management for Smart City

3. Urban Planning for Smart City

4. Smart Land Use

5. Intelligent Transportation and Logistics

 Upon completing the program, the students will be embodied with abilities to provide a city with functions of sustainability, livability, and social equity through technology and design innovation.

  The Program, based on the developmental theories of smart cities, incorporates advanced technology and techniques in the course design for further research and development. We are recruiting prospective students who have the learning background or have the passion for advanced technology related to smart cities. The Program aims to cultivate students’ abilities to do research independently, to think forward, to analyze data critically, to improve evaluation skills, and to apply their knowledge to practice in the inter-disciplined learning.

  This Program applies the advanced technology to the research in related fields including construction and engineering, water resources management, urban planning, land use, and transportation and logistics. The Program is uniquely positioned to foster research, academy, and community engagement through the creativity and intellectual inspiration of our staff and students. Inter-discipline courses are also highlighted so that students are able to combine theories and practices in a productive manner. The focuses of The International Master Program for Smart City are as follows:

 

1. The Application of Advanced Technology

Students are expected to explore the way that techniques of big data, IoT (Internet of things) and cloud computing can be used in the study of Smart City. Besides, students can select the adaptive learning path to improve their professional training in both theory and practice.

2.  The Innovation of Smart City

Students are expected to cultivate the global vision in order to think from a global perspective how the world can become better through the building of smart cities.

3. The Practice on Special Project

Students are expected to gain the abilities of solving problems and managing the projects through the programs and thus prepare for the future.
