The College of Construction and Development, established in
August 2000, combined partial departments and research centers
from the college of engineering and previous college of
management, consists of the Graduate Institute of Civil and
Water Resources Engineering (Ph.D. Program), the Graduate Institute
of Environmental and Spatial Information Science and
Technology (MS), the Graduate Institute of Landscape
Architecture and Recreational Planning (MA), the Department of
Civil Engineering (BS MS), the Department of Water Resources
Engineering (BS MS), the Department of Architecture (BA MA),
the Department of Urban Planning (BS MS), the Department of
Traffic and Transportation Engineering and Management (BS MS),
the Department of Land Management (BA MA), the Department of
Interior and Landscape Design (BA), the Research Center for
Construction and Accident Prevention, and the Research Center
for Geographical Information Systems. The faculty, consisting
of 94 full-time professors (14 professors, 46 associate
professors, 8 assistant professors, and 26 lecturers) and 130
part-time lecturers, are internationally recognized for their
teaching and research.
The Extra Certificates Programs, such as construction and
management program and spatial information system programs,
are a joint program with the Departments and prepare the
student in the areas of architectural design, city planning,
land management, transportation, and construction engineering.
Features and prospects
The College has strong research programs that attract $3
million of yearly research funding from government and
industry. The growth of the building industry, which is the
largest industry in the nation, is generating a need for
architects and engineers who have specialized training in
creating new building systems and city development. This need
for architects, planners and engineers proficient in our
college is further intensified by the introduction of new
materials, new approaches in design, planning techniques,
digital computer technologies, earthquake loadings, new
construction methods, advanced intelligent transportation
systems, and management techniques, improved environmental
impact control, needs for living comfort and safety, and
conservation of energy. The program in our college meets these
needs.
The College of Construction and Development stresses the
balanced development of teaching, research, and service. It
values both theory and practice, emphasized the system theory
research, and enforces the application of modern engineering,
planning, designing, and management skills. All the
departments are equipped with the most up-to-date computers
and teaching facilities to meet the needs of the information
age. The Research Center for Geographical Information Systems,
the only integrated high-tech application unit of the
University, works in close coordination with governmental land
information systems. The College is now focusing on developing
information technologies provides assistance in teaching
geographical information systems and related research on
campus. In addition, service to public and private
organizations involved in research and development of E-design
program is also rendered. |
